Discussions around the house have ventured in the direction of child rearing and training techniques. Some of this has come about as I've recounted funny comments from the parenting class I'm teaching at Carenet, and some from reading my sister-in-laws tales of life with toddlers. All my kids can recount times they received "the rod of correction" and apparently some more than others. Hannah even boasted, "Yeah, and the one who got the most, turned out the best." I think her older sister and brother would beg to differ; both about who received the most spankings and who has turned out the best, but I'm glad she now sees the wisdom in our correction and discipline. It's been a long, often exhausting road...but well worth the effort. So, for all you parents of toddlers, I'm rooting for you! Keep up the hard work of consistency. The results are priceless.

  1. I remember when I hid all of your rods and you had to give me a spanking with kevin's belt. After the spanking I said, " Mommy that did not hurt next time you should use daddy's belt." She never took that idea up because she found my stash of rods.

  2. At what point is Hannah sharing too much information? Really, must she share ALL our family secrets?

  4. Thanks Natalie for the laugh tonite...and confidence boost that my efforts might actually turn into a child which could whatsoever resemble one of yours! After the 25th "NO!" today, and multiple attempts at times outs, patiently waiting for him to come to me, rather than me go carting toward him to take him where he needed to go and countless reminders that he must "follow directions" we ended up with a "pop on the bottom" before bed and 10 minutes of lights out in his crib and crying until he was able to calm down and realize the error of his ways, and then nicely followed the routine to the finish and sleep with nary a peep.

I will be much more settled when Daddy makes it home and I can go back to man to man defense instead of zone, however!

  5. p.s. Especially after having to deal with a leak in a pipe in the wall in the laundry room which has resulted in water on the floor coming out from under the cabinets tonite too! Ahhhh...calgon! Oh, that's right, this place doesn't have a decent tub either...someday again! :)
